Rushmoor Youth Forum

Rushmoor Youth Forum has been meeting for about 10 years and the main aim of the forum is to "Support and promote the personal development of young people through the transition from dependency to adulthood".

The objectives of the Rushmoor Youth Forum are:
To develop an effective communications network between various youth work agencies

To encourage and allow youth people to have a greater say and management in their own affairs

To initiate and develop a collaborative approach to social problems affecting the welfare of young people and make the most effective use of the many statutory and voluntary services

To provide a forum on which organisations, groups, individuals can through the Rushmoor Youth Forum promote the needs of young people making recommendations and requests for action to the appropriate agencies and organisations

To encourage a partnership of both statutory and voluntary agencies by which co-operation, action and development is to the forefront.

To give grant aid to groups/individuals which give benefit and meets the needs of young people in accordance with the forums aims and objectives.

To identify areas of work which are considered important to the needs of young people and allocate monies in accordance with those needs.

How to get involved?

Membership of the RYF is open to all local youth organisations who work within the Borough of Rushmoor, registered with Hampshire County Council, or who are accepted by the forum.

When and where do they meet

They meet four times a year at the Rushmoor Borough Council Offices.

Areas that RYF get involved in:

Youth Plan - Assist the development of a Rushmoor Youth Plan in order to co-ordinate and focus the work of the numerous agencies and to monitor its implementation.

Consultation - Assist with surveys to obtain feedback from young people on a range of services, social issues and their aspirations, and develop focus groups to consider youth related matters.

National Initiatives and Consultation Documents - To provide assistance and guidance on areas such as Citizenship Education and South Central Connexions for which the Forum could act as the co-ordinating body for Rushmoor.

Youth Council - Support the development of the Mayor's Youth Council and help ensure young people have the opportunity to shape services.

Local Initiatives - Provide advice, guidance and initiate local events and projects. Current projects include SNAP Discos, Junior Citizens, First Gear, Youth Magazine, outdoor recreational provision, youth games etc.

Best Value - Assist the Council in its two year Best Value Review of youth services and facilities, and the development of a Community Plan.

Grants - To determine whether the Mayor's Youth Council wish to become involved with the allocation of grants.
