Crowds turn out for the North Camp Summer Fayre

Community spirit won through on Saturday as hundreds of people braved the wet weather to take part in the North Camp Summer Fayre and procession.

The event, sponsored by the Aldershot News, was organised by North Camp Matters with support from Rushmoor Borough Council and local schools.

Once again the streets of North Camp were filled with colour as community groups rose to the challenge and joined the procession, with an 'animal antics' theme. The procession filled the length of Camp Road as it headed to Queen's Road Recreation Ground where an afternoon of entertainment awaited.

The emphasis was on family fun and community information, with stalls, activities, competitions and arena displays available for visitors at Queen's Road Recreation Ground.

Panda's Pre-School held on to last years title of 'Best in Parade' judged by the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor David Welch. The Mayor praised all the entrants for their imaginative costumes and props and said how hard it had been to choose an overall winner.

Exhibitors included businesses, charities, churches, schools and numerous local groups providing information on their work. North Camp Matters Football Club hosted a five-a-side tournament for the under 7s with all teams receiving medals for taking part.

Event organiser, Sharon Lucas, Chair of North Camp Matters, said: "We are really pleased with the number of people who have turned out to take part today. We knew we were taking a chance with the weather and we thank everyone who helped make this day a success."

Sharon added: "The event seems to get bigger and better every year. We have already had some very positive feedback on the procession and the event in general. People like the fact that it is a local event in the heart of their own community. We would like to thank everyone involved in the planning and running of the event and look forward to next year!"
