Local groups spring into action to look after the Wildlife Garden

Queen’s Road Recreation Ground has once again been a hive of activity as members of local community groups have given the wildlife garden a spring spruce up.

The demonstration wildlife garden project has been an ongoing project of the Rushmoor Urban Wildlife Group since 2005.  Through their work the area has been transformed into a haven for local wildlife.  Recently an audit was taken of the different habitats and the group joined forces with the Rushmoor Voluntary Service (RVS) and members of the Farnborough Rotary Club to carry out habitat improvement works to rejuvenate the site and ensure the habitats will continue to thrive.

“I’m really pleased that different areas are becoming established, not only for their value to the local wildlife but also for helping improve the recreation ground for the local community” said Les Murrell, the instigator of the project and Rushmoor Borough Council Sustainability Officer.

The RVS Gardening Group, having helped with the recent work at the garden, have agreed to make Queen’s Road Recreation Ground one of their ongoing projects.  This will ensure the garden receives regular loving care, and with their expert habitat management should go from strength to strength.
