North Camp prepares for a World of fun

Community groups and residents are getting ready to show off their community spirit at this year’s North Camp Summer Fayre on Saturday 11 July.

North Camp Summer Fayre

The event organised by Rushmoor Borough Council and North Camp Matters Association involves a colourful procession through the streets of North Camp at 12 noon to Queen’s Road Recreation Ground for an afternoon of activities and family fun.

The theme of this year‘s procession is ‘People of the World’ and groups, clubs, charities and pre-schools are already thinking up imaginative costumes which they hope will win them the ‘Best in Parade’ Trophy which will be presented by the Mayor of Rushmoor.

The Summer Fayre is set to be an action packed day, with dog display teams, a marching band and dancers including Nepalese cultural dancing. Junk Percussion workshops will be available throughout the afternoon along with lots of information and fundraising stalls. There will also be a car boot sale, which sellers can book now at £5.00 per vehicle instead of £8.00 on the day.

Event manager Debbie Whitcombe from Rushmoor Borough Council said “We want everyone in North Camp to come out and share this day with us.  Our aim is to provide an affordable family day out for local people and to offer local groups an opportunity to highlight their work and raise money.  This year looks to be full of colour, music and fun and we are looking forward to what we hope will be our most successful year yet.”

She added  “We have also introduced two runners up prizes for ‘Best in Parade’ as it has become more and more difficult to select only one winner when everyone makes such an effort and creates such fantastic costumes.  Every group will also receive a certificate for taking part as a thank you from the organisers.”

The event is sponsored by the News and Mail, Holiday Inn and Pear Tree Day Nursery.
