Decision for Park Road Scheme
Rushmoor
Council's Cabinet has decided to make the Park Road one-way scheme
in North Camp permanent.
The
decision was based on the conclusions of an independent study carried
out by locally-based traffic consultants.
The
consultants carried out traffic surveys in November to compare
traffic flows in Park Road before and after the one-way system
was introduced.
The
survey showed that there had been an overall reduction in traffic
in the North Camp area since the one-way system was set up just
over a year ago, with traffic now using the A325 Farnborough Road
rather than accessing the A331 Blackwater Valley Road from North
Camp.
In Park
Road and Queens Road, road safety and the environment had significantly
improved and with fewer cars on the roads, traffic was moving more
freely through North Camp, a benefit to local residents.
A report
on the independent consultants' findings to the Cabinet on Tuesday
recommended that the scheme in Park Road should be made permanent
as soon as possible. Further work will be done to see where changes
can be made to improve traffic flow in the area even more.
Jim
Pettitt, Rushmoor Borough Council's Head of Street Scene Services,
said, "Traffic flows have settled down and queue times reduced.
Some residents in the area remain inconvenienced by their journey
routes through the area, but hopefully they will see the overall
benefit of the scheme; work will continue to see how this can be
improved. "
