Crowds turn out for the North Camp Summer Fayre
The
streets of North Camp were filled with pirates and man-eating
sharks on Saturday (16) when hundreds turned out for the North
Camp Village Summer Fayre, ‘Sea World’
Local
groups and schools came together in a wonderful display of colour
and community spirit as more than 200 people marched through
the streets of North Camp cheered on by those who had lined the
route to enjoy the spectacle.
The
emphasis was on family fun and community information, with stalls,
activities, competitions and bouncy castles available to visitors
at Queen's Road Recreation Ground.
Exhibitors
included local businesses, charities, churches, schools and numerous
local groups providing information on their work.
The
arena attractions included displays from GKR Karate, the Godalming
Goldstars Marching Band, the Rushmoor Gymnastics Academy and
a Nepalese dancing display.
The
event was organised by North Camp Matters with support from Rushmoor
Borough Council, Rowan and Webster, the Aldershot News and the
Holiday Inn.
The
Mayor of Rushmoor, Cllr George Dawson, awarded the 'best in parade'
trophy to 'Kids Den' who had dressed as pirates and walked the
route with their boat!
During
the day, the Mayor officially opened the new play facilities
at the Recreation Ground. Joined by invited guests the Mayor
thanked everyone who has been involved in the development of
the playground and all the other improvements to Queen's Road
Recreation Ground.
He
said: "I know that a lot of thought went into the design
of the playground and that many people were consulted about what
should be included in it. From the number of people who use it
on a daily basis it has obviously been a great success and been
welcomed by the residents of North Camp. Indeed it seems to have
been so successful that some parents can't get their children
to go home after school!"
Organiser,
Sharon Lucas, Chair of North Camp Matters said: "We are
really pleased with the number of people who have turned out
to take part today and look forward to making next years event
bigger and better still. "
Fr
Martin and Fr Gary from the North Camp adult drop in centre at
Queen's Road, (operated by The Old Catholic Church of Great Britain)
said: "it was a marvellous day and it has been an honour
to share it with the people of North Camp. It is wonderful to
see so many people enjoying themselves. We are glad to have been
a part of it and are already seeing more people visit our drop
in centre after meeting us at the fayre."
The
organisers would like to express their thanks to everyone who
supported the event, especially Pippins Pre-School, South Farnborough
Infant School, volunteers on the day, those who donated prizes
and the event's sponsors.
