Regeneration of North Camp continues
The
regeneration of North Camp is continuing with an update given
at Rushmoor Borough Council's, Environment Panel on Tuesday.
To
date, four businesses in North Camp have benefited from Shop Front
Improvement Grants given by Rushmoor Council. The grants contribute
up to 25% or £1,000 towards the cost of work that repairs
and maintains the features of existing traditional shop fronts.
Cool
Projects, a refrigeration and air conditioning company in Camp
Road has been the most recent to benefit from a grant. A limited
number of grants are still available. For further details, businesses
in North Camp can contact Debbie Whitcombe at the Council on 01252
398 793.
Debbie
Whitcombe, North Camp Regeneration Officer at Rushmoor Borough
Council said: "We are really pleased with the success of the
shop front improvement scheme. By repairing and maintaining the
existing shop fronts we will be able to protect the traditional
character of North Camp."
There
is strong evidence of a renewed confidence in North Camp as a business
location. Recent additions to the shopping centre include, Sovereign
Snooker Club in Camp Road, which successfully brought a long-term
empty building back into use. Work is also underway to refurbish
the old Suite Seconds shop also in Camp Road to provide new homes
and retail units. A new Chemist has just opened its doors in Camp
Road and Alexandra Road is soon to have a Nail Bar.
Debbie
added: "The regeneration programme has encouraged transformation
of several derelict sites close to the shopping area, providing
new homes and businesses. All of this plays an important role in
revitalising North Camp and making it an increasingly attractive
place to live, work and relax."
Plans
to build a feature as the gateway to North Camp from Napier Gardens
are currently being developed and residents were asked for their
views on the designs in the spring.
The
Council has also completed work with South Farnborough Junior School
in Cunnington Road to develop a School Travel Plan and safer routes
for school children. Hampshire County Council and the Department
for Education and Skills have now approved this plan and it is
hoped that a bid for funding will be successful so that pedestrian
safety and parking improvements can be made.

Regeneration Officer at Rushmoor Borough Council on 01252 398 793.
