Traffic Study for North Camp
The
trial one-way scheme for Park Road, Farnborough is to continue
while a comprehensive study is carried into traffic movement
in the North Camp area.
Rushmoor
Council's Cabinet agreed on Tuesday to support the appointment
of consultants to carry out a comprehensive study of traffic movement
covering North Camp and the roads leading up as far as Ship Lane,
Farnborough.
This
study, which will be paid for by Hampshire County Council but managed
by Rushmoor, will include looking at existing traffic movement
and using computer modelling to work out how to reduce congestion,
to improve traffic flow and to look at the likely effect of road
improvements on other areas, particularly residential. It will
also take into account the likely impact of new developments on
the area, such as the Aldershot Urban Extension.
The
trial one way scheme in Park Road, introduced early this year,
has shown that the main traffic routes in the area, in particular
Lynchford Road cannot deal with the volume of traffic, which has
for several years made use of alternative unclassified roads such
as Park Road.
On Tuesday,
Rushmoor's Cabinet decided that the one way scheme should continue
until the outcome of the study, to be carried out this autumn,
is known. But, the Cabinet also agreed that as the trial was continuing,
some road safety work needed to be carried out for the period of
the study, including replacing the temporary kerbing at road junctions
and monitoring traffic speeds. This work will be kept to a minimum
until the final decision has been made. The effect of the one way
scheme will be included in the traffic study.
Councillor
Roland Dibbs, Cabinet Member for Environment, said, "The trial
has shown that we need to seek improvements to Lynchford Road now
with some urgency as part of a review of all traffic in the North
Camp area. I am pleased that Hampshire County Council are supporting
this comprehensive traffic study and I hope that we will be able
to come up with a longer term solution for the traffic problems
in this area."
