North Camp Traffic Study Gets Underway
The
comprehensive study of traffic flows in the North Camp area got
underway this week with surveyors in place at most road junctions
on Thursday and automatic traffic counters at over 25 locations.
The
study was timed to make sure that surveys would not be affected
by major roadworks in the area, including the contra-flow system
on the M3 motorway.
This
study, paid for by Hampshire County Council and managed by Rushmoor,
is looking at existing traffic movements and using computer models
to work out how to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and
consider the effect of road improvements on other areas. It will
also take into account the potential impact of new developments
on the area, such as the Aldershot Urban Extension.
The
trial one-way scheme in Park Road, introduced earlier this year,
has shown that the main traffic routes in the area, in particular
Lynchford Road, cannot deal with the volume of traffic. Rushmoor's
Cabinet decided that the one-way scheme should continue until the
outcome of the study is known. The results of the study should
be known in the new year.
