Council steps in to offer police a temporary home

Rushmoor Council has stepped in to offer the police a temporary base while Farnborough police station is closed to the public.
From Monday (21), the Council made space available in the reception area of its main offices in Farnborough to provide a temporary reception for the police.

The police reception is being staffed on weekdays from 9am to 5pm by either a police officer or a station enquiry officer.

The Council has also offered to make its interview rooms available if people have confidential issues to discuss. Its reception staff will also be able to take messages if the police are called away.

The police reception will be based at the Council Offices until around March 24, while the police station is closed to the public for refurbishment work.

Councillor John Marsh, Leader of the Council, said: "We felt it was important for the public to have access to the police while the police station is being refurbished and we were happy to be able to offer a temporary reception area in the Council Offices. We are pleased that the police have taken up our offer."

Inspector John Anderson, Farnborough sector police inspector, said: "While the essential refurbishment at Farnborough police station is underway we are unable to open our enquiry office to the public for health and safety reasons. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

"We are very grateful to our partners at Rushmoor Borough Council who have offered us space to set up a temporary police reception at their offices for the duration of the refurbishment."
