Crowds turn out for the North Camp Summer Fayre

The streets of North Camp were filled with colour Saturday (8) when hundreds turned out for The North Camp Village Summer Fayre 'Carnival Capers'.

Local groups and schools came together in a wonderful display of colour and community spirit as hundreds of people marched through the streets of North Camp cheered on by those who had lined the route to enjoy the spectacle.

The emphasis was on family fun and community information, with stalls, activities, competitions and arena displays available to visitors at Queen's Road Recreation Ground.

Panda's Pre-School were awarded the Trophy for Best in Parade by the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor John Marsh. The Mayor praised all the entrants for their imaginative costumes and props and said how hard it had been to choose an overall winner.

This year saw the first carnival float in the procession which carried a very loud band of young people through the streets directed by their band master dressed as Scooby Doo. A car boot sale also added a new element to the day and was well attended by sellers and buyers alike.

Exhibitors included local businesses, charities, churches, schools and numerous local groups providing information on their work. Local groups demonstrated their skills in the arena with displays of maypole dancing, judo, dance and music.

Organiser, Sharon Lucas, Chair of North Camp Matters, said: "We are really pleased with the number of people who have turned out to take part today. The event seems to get bigger and better every year. We have had already had some very positive feedback on the procession and the event in general. People like the fact that it is a local event in the heart of their own community."

The event, sponsored by the Aldershot News, was organised by North Camp Matters with support from Rushmoor Borough Council, the Army Welfare Service, local schools and Parents Acton Group for Special Play. Organisers would like to thank everyone involved in the planning and running of the event and look forward to next year.
