Over-stayers force parking fee debate
Rushmoor Council is proposing to make them pay 10p to park for 20 minutes.
The move follows long-standing protests that some drivers are hogging the free time-limited bays. In a report the council cabinet was told: “We receive regular complaints from traders, shoppers, residents and ward councillors about the lack of availability of these spaces.”
Describing the proposed 10p for 20 minutes charge as “modest”, the report says shoppers would be allowed to park for a maximum of one hour.
The idea is to be discussed with traders and ward councillors to try to ensure the proposal does not lead to motorists parking in nearby residential roads.
