Knellwood and St. Marks Policing Updates

Since 2009 the Safer Neighbourhood Team for Knellwood and St Marks have produced a weekly 'Policing Update' detailing local policing activity and witness appeals for the local area. In addition we have held regular policing forums at the Baptist Church in Queens Road as well as launching a new Twitter service @FarnboroughCops.

We are currently reviewing the success or otherwise of these approaches and would like your feedback. I would therefore ask that you complete the attached survey and answer the questions as honestly as possible. There are only eight questions in the survey but your responses will determine if these methods of communication continue.

General

Over the past two weeks there have been four arrests across Knellwood and St Marks for various incidents. On Sunday (08/04) a male was arrested following an incident outside The Swan public house on Farnborough Road for being verbally abusive towards staff and officers - the incident resulted in an £80 FPN! On Friday (14/04) a male was detained for drink driving on Lynchford Road following a call from a member of the public who spotted him exiting his vehicle in a very drunken state. The remaining arrests related to a domestic incident and a male wanted by Thames Valley Police.

You can get daily updates on the work of the Farnborough Safer Neighbourhood Team and the Hampshire Constabulary by following us on Twitter (Click to View). As well as updates, the service also includes a image library which this week includes images of the Community Action Day on the Mayfield Estate and PCSO's Attwood and While out on patrol during the bad weather on Wednesday (18/04). Please sign up to the service today!

Homeless Male

We had reports of criminal damage to a property in Salisbury Road overnight on Wednesday (18/04) by a homeless male. I am currently unaware of any homeless persons living within Knellwood and St Marks and would ask any sighting are reported to myself or PCSO Lawrence so that we can offer appropriate assistance via Rushmoor Borough Council.

Speedwatch

After almost a year of waiting eight new Speedwatch volunteers joined the scheme on Saturday (21/04). The delay was caused by our internal vetting department which suffered from a large backlog due to the volume of new volunteers joining the constabulary. In total the team now consists of 12 volunteers along with an administrator who will oversee its administration. The new volunteers will be trained up over the next few months before being unlashed on their own on nominated streets across Farnborough.

One of the new roads which I aim to include on the revised scheme is Rectory Road which appears to suffer from speeding motorists as they descend towards the junction with Ashley Road.  Further updates will be published once all the initial training has been completed.

Knellwood and St Marks Policing Forum

The next forum is scheduled for Wednesday 9th May 2012 @ 19:30h at the Baptist Church in Queens Road, Farnborough.

All forums are held in conjunction with the North Camp Matters Community Association (NCMCA). As well as the main policing update we also have a guest speaker from Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) to discuss this years traffic management plan. We will also have Q&A's for both presentations.

You can locate details of all upcoming events, as well as detailed information on crime statistics, on the CrimeReports website at www.crimereports.co.uk

Theft from Vehicle

A vehicle was targeted on Church Road West overnight on Saturday (08/04). A number of low value items were taken from within the car with only minor damage being caused to the vehicle itself. If you saw anything suspicious around this time, please contact the Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44120137636.

You can locate specific advice on protecting you car on the Hampshire Constabulary website:- http://www.hampshire.police.uk/Internet/advice/secure/car.htm

Anti-Social Behaviour

We re-launched Op Jacobson patrols at the start of the Easter Holidays and these will continue until the autumn. As with previous years we will operate a voluntary curfew at all our parks, now also including Priory Road Park off Rectory Road, whereby we ask anyone using the park to leave at around 22:00 hours. This approach seems to work well and has steadily reduced levels of ASB over the last 2-3 years. I am aware of at least two reports over the weekend of cars acting anti-socially in the King George V car-park and would ask that everyone continues to report any such matters so that Jenni and I can target our patrols accordingly - we may not always be able to respond to every call but they do all get reviewed!

You can see some of the alcohol seized in the first week of Op Jacobson  using our 'FarnboroughCops' twitter service:- <http://twitter.com/farnboroughcops>  Please take the time to view the service and 'Follow Us' using the option provided - so far we have nearly 550 followers with many local residents engaging on various topics.

Beat Boundary Changes

The beat boundaries for Knellwood and St Marks are changing on 3rd May 2012. We therefore welcome several Neighbourhood Watch Schemes from Town Centre and Empress Ward who now fall under Knellwood and St Marks, including Rectory Road, Abbey Way, Old Rectory Gardens, Ashleigh Road and Rappallo Close. All the existing codes used to identify individual schemes have also changed. I have attached a list of all new codes for your reference.

I would encourage residents in these new roads to attend our Policing Forum which is taking place next month (See below for details).

Dangerous Mopeds

On Thursday (29/03) we undertook our second operation targeting dangerous mopeds around the beat. One of our readers spotted two youths entering Queens Recreation Ground on Queens Road and called our control room on 101. CCTV monitored the youths whilst officers were dispatched to the scene. The bike was subsequently tested by our colleagues in the Roads Policing Dept (RPU) and seized for being too powerful for the rider. You can see a picture of the testing equipment in action and the seized bike on the 'FarnboroughCops' twitter service:- <http://twitter.com/farnboroughcops

Violent Crime Initiative

On Friday (30/03) and Saturday (31/03) we joined with our colleagues at Aldershot and Rushmoor Borough Council to target those committing violent crime in Aldershot Town Centre. Sadly a lot of our crimes on Knellwood and St Marks occur due to intoxicated persons travelling back from Aldershot Town Centre. By tackling the problem at source it is hoped that we can reduce overall crime levels within Aldershot and Farnborough. During the initiative we searched over 700 people entering The Goose and Yates as well as conducting various licensing checks at other pubs and clubs within the town centre. You can see a picture of the search arch used during the policing initiative on the 'FarnboroughCops' twitter service:- <http://twitter.com/farnboroughcops

Vehicle Damage

Over recent weeks we have seen a large number of vehicles spray painted in Rectory Road and Prince Charles Crescent (Grange Ward). It appears that a single person may be responsible for the damage and we are working with a number of adjacent forces (Surrey etc.) to identify the suspect. Anyone with any information should contact the Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44120098843 (Op Denton)

Lead Theft

A house on Sycamore Road was targeted on Wednesday (28/03) by lead thief's who removed a quantity of lead from the roof. It was the second time that the house has been targeted in the last few weeks. Anyone with any information should contact the Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44120122431.

Burglary

A burglary was reported at the Sheldons Bakery in Queens Road on Tuesday (20/03) morning. At this time it does not appear that anything was stolen from within the property however damage was caused to several items. Anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious is asked to call the Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44120110997.

Public Order

Residents in Gordon Road will have noticed a large police presence in the area on Saturday (24/03) morning following a public order incident at a nearby property. Upon police arrival a male became violent towards officers and was subsequently arrested and taken to Aldershot Custody Centre.  Following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) the male was released without charge.

LIFE Course

PCSO Jennie Lawrence spent last week at Rushmoor Fire Station supporting Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) with their newest recruits on the LIFE course. The Local Intervention Fire Education (LIFE) course aims to promote team work and responsibility amongst children who have come to the attention of the police. The course is offered as an alternative to traditional teaching methods and is very successful at engaging children who might otherwise turn to crime. You can see a picture of PCSO Lawrence in her fire fighters uniform and other pictures on the 'FarnboroughCops' twitter service:- <http://twitter.com/farnboroughcops

Hate Crimes

The Hampshire Constabulary have produced a video to highlight the role of Lesbian and Gay Liaison Officers (LAGLO's) and how they can support victims of hate crimes. I would urge members of the Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Transgender communities to take a look at the video. You can locate it on the 'HantsPoliceLGBT' twitter service:- <http://twitter.com/HantsPoliceLGBT

Burglary

A house in Cambridge Road West was subjected to a burglary last week during the early hours of Monday (12/03) morning. It appears the burglars have gained entry into the property via  a rear door and then stolen a painting which was hanging on an internal wall. I continue to urge local residents to be extra vigilant when out and about and to ensure all doors and windows are securely locked. If you saw anything suspicious around Cambridge Road West last Monday, please contact the Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44120101991

You can locate crime prevention advice on how to secure your windows on the Hampshire Constabulary website:- http://www.hampshire.police.uk/Internet/advice/secure/windows.htm

Beat Priorities

We continue to target those areas nominated by local residents as beat priorities. On Tuesday (13/03) two tickets were issued to cyclists using the pavement along Alexandra Road and a further two tickets were also issued on Friday (16/03), again in Alexandra Road. In total we have now issued around 20 tickets since the area became a priority in January. We also undertook regular patrols outside both the Wavell School and Salesian College with no reported problems last week. On Friday (16/03) our Speed Watch Volunteers were out and about in Salisbury Road targeting speeding vehicles - a total of 5 vehicle were identified and will shortly be receiving a letter through the post about their driving!

Cannabis Seizures

It seemed that whenever I left the station last week I was finding people smoking cannabis! I made seizures on Farnborough Road, Alexandra Road and Saltram Road and searched a total of 11 people who were suspected of being involved in the use and/or supply of drugs. On Friday (16/03) two youths were stopped on two separate occasions around King George V on suspicion of smoking cannabis. On the first occasion I didn't locate anything but my colleague PC Sam Adcock found a quantity of cannabis later that evening when she searched them again in the car-park area of the park. Anyone caught in possession of cannabis can expect to receive a warning, fixed penalty notice or court appearance!

Hampshire School Challenge

The Wavell School are currently participating in the Hampshire School Challenge which this year is linked to ideas inspired by the London Olympics. There is a community vote and I would ask all local residents to take a look at the website and vote Wavell! http://www3.hants.gov.uk/makeanimpact.htm

Burglaries

A house in Reading Road was subjected to an attempted burglary last week sometime between Wednesday (07/03) and Saturday (10/03). As with previous burglaries in Church Road West and Farnborough Road the offenders have attempted to gain access via a rear window at the property. I would therefore urge local residents to be extra vigilant when out and about and to ensure all doors and windows are securely locked. If you saw anything suspicious around Reading Road during this times please contact the Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44120101434

Thefts

We have had six minor thefts reported over the past few days in OXFORD ROAD, KING GEORGE V and  CAMP ROAD. I would ask residents to ensure they keep their person belongings with them at all times and to check their banks cards etc.. after using them to pay for items in shops.

Burglaries

Unfortunately two burglaries were reported during the early hours of Monday (27/02) morning in Church Road West and Farnborough Road. In both cases it appears entry was gained via unsecure windows at the rear of the properties and numerous items were stolen. At the same time several other thefts were reported in Church Circle and along the Farnborough Road which we believe were all linked. If you saw anything suspicious at this time, please contact the Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44120079798. On a separate note a local youth was questioned on Wednesday (29/02) following a burglary in Saltram Road early this year. The youth admitted his involvement in the offence and is likely to receive an official police caution.

Local residents can also discuss topics raised within the community newsletter using the online messaging tool. Any residents living in these areas are asked to join using the instructions e-mailed to you last week. Additional areas will be published over the next few weeks.

Beat Priorities

Last week we spent several hours targeting your beat priorities throughout Knellwood and St Marks. On Wednesday (29/02) and Friday (02/03) patrols were undertaken to deter those using their pedal cycles on the footpaths along Alexandra Road and Queens Road. A total of three £30 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued and several local residents officially warned following the patrols. Further patrols will be conducted over the next few weeks.  We also continued our patrols outside the Wavell School on Wednesday (29/02) where three parents received official warnings for parking on the double yellow lines outside the school. These patrols will continue as we enter into the spring with additional patrols also taking place outside the Salesian College.

Drugs

On Thursday (01/03) a male was arrested in Queens Road following the seizure of a quantity of cannabis. The seizure was a result of a warrant issued by Aldershot Magistrate Court. The male is currently on police bail whilst further enquiries are undertaken. In a separate incident a youth was found in possession of cannabis following an incident on Friday (02/03) afternoon. The youth was interviewed by police and fully admitted his involvement in the offence and will receive an official police caution.

Criminal Damage

We have had reports of two windows being smashed at a property in Firs Close between 20/02 and 25/02. One of the windows was situated at the front of the property whilst the second was situated at the rear of the property. If anyone saw anything suspicious during these times please call the Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44120078127.

Drink Driving

My colleagues on response arrested two suspected drink drivers this week. On Sunday (19/02) a male was arrested in Camp Road and taken to Aldershot Custody Centre where he blew a positive sample of breath. The male has now been charged to appear before Aldershot Magistrate Court next month. On Saturday (25/02) morning officers gave chase after a driver of a vehicle ran from police following an incident on the A331 (junction with Lynchford Road). The male was eventually arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to Aldershot Custody Centre. The male was subsequently released on bail to allow further police enquiries to be undertaken.

Survey Results - Thank you

I would like to thank the 400 residents who completed our recent online survey. 85% of local residents always read our policing updates and 93% of local residents think that the contents is relevant, with a number of key themes emerging about why they are useful. A couple of key issues did emerge however such as the distribution of the updates in certain areas. As a direct result of feedback the updates will now be distributed to all residents via our central mailing list. I would however ask Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators to continue distributing them to their members in the usual way.

Over the next few weeks we will also be launching a new service based on the website www.crimereports.co.uk which is managed by Hampshire Constabulary. Using crime reports local residents will be able to get the same regular updates from PCSO Lawrence and I but will also be able to customise what alerts they get in respect of local crimes. Local residents will also be able to use their iPhone or iPad to access the service via our free Crime Reports App. Details of this new service will be published soon but in the meantime I would encourage local residents to visit the site and set-up a free account!

Anti-Social Behaviour

We have had several reports of loud music being played around King George V, Sycamore Road and Cunnington Road. On every occasion that we have responded to these reports we have not heard any music being played - if you live in this area and hear any loud music please let me know so that I can investigate and identify the source! I have also noticed an increase in graffiti at the King George Pavilion - again if you see anyone causing criminal damage to the pavilion then please report it via 999 to that we can identify those responsible!

Boot Camps!

Whilst our on patrol last week I came across a boot camp taking place in King George V park! The camps are organised by local resident Yolanda Smith and are attended by numerous other local residents, including one of our very own Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators! I got talking to Yolanda and was offered a broccoli smoothie (Not as bad as it sounds!) whilst she talked about the camps. I have attached a leaflet about the boot camps to this update but anyone wanting more info can pop along to King George V on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:00am or 9:15am or see the website www.facebook.com/pages/Adventure-Boot-Camp-Farnborough/266029853463187?ref=tn_tnmn
