Steve Optix the DJ

Ventures in and around the Music scene 1991 - present

Primarily I'm a DJ and vinyl collector and DJing is my way of getting other people to experience the feelings that certain tunes give me.

1991 - 1993
Lots of Clubs, Raves, all night parties, basically being christened into the dance/electronica scene. Not asking any questions, just enjoying it.

1993
Obsession with collecting vinyl started. I wanted to make everyone else feel the same way I did upon hearing a certain tune. And I found out how............................turntables!

1994
I wanted to be involved in the scene any and everyway. I thought start an agency, write a magazine, I decided on a DJ merchandise business. I designed and screen printed slipmats and record bags to record shops, I sold out in a month. I would have continued this venture but the company who printed for me went bust and lost my original screens.

1995
Heavily into the hardcore rave scene, the best thing to do was release a record, it should do my DJing career a world of good. I found the perfect happy cheesy samples and put together a 180bpm monster that sold 2000 copies. Unfortunately it didn't help my DJing because the record label didn't use my DJ tag on the release, they used my real name, which didn't help propell me to stardom. Oh well, I was getting bored of Hardcore anyway.

1996 - 1999
I played on and co-ran a successful pirate radio station, Spectrum 107.1fm. Broadcasting all weekend with a large roster of DJs and advertisers to a thirty mile radius. The DJing work picked up nicely as well holding down four weekly residencies at one point, Reading, Farnborough and two in London !

Towards the end of the year I promoted my own night at a local venue, playing a five hour set of music from across the dance spectrum, twice a week.  Which was and always will be exactly what I wanted. Eclectic crowd, complete musical freedom and a beautiful sound system.

2000
The most hectic year of my life so far. Aside from playing alongside people like Norman Jay, Jeremy Healy, CJ Mackintosh, Lisa Unique, at The Matrix Superclub in Reading, I spent four months DJing in Holland and five months DJing in Tenerife during the summer period.

When I came back it took from September till December to recover.

During this rest period built a House Music related website, The X Project, with my friend and DJ partner, Matt Logik.

2001
Haven't done as much DJing as I'd have liked to this year, but I have promoted some great nights down the local. I've spent a lot of time building websites and not enough on music, but that's all about to change..............
