‘Home Safe’ taxi scheme launched in Rushmoor

Parents can now be reassured that their children will get home safely in any circumstance thanks to a new scheme launched by Farnborough based A-Line Taxis in conjunction with Rushmoor Borough Council.

The new Home Safe Taxi2 scheme allows parents in the borough to register their children for a unique ‘top-up’ style card, which can be used in case of an emergency. The card can be topped-up with money, similar to a mobile phone, and when required, a child can call the number on the card and an A-Line Taxi will come and pick them up.

Councillor Diane Bedford, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Youth at Rushmoor Borough Council, said: “The card is an excellent idea, which will benefit a lot of families in Rushmoor.  Family life is always busy, and occasionally situations arise where extra help is needed. A-Line Taxis have pledged to help children and young people in these situations, which is a great credit to the company.”

Shaun Orriss, Manager of A-Line Taxis said: “This is a unique scheme, which we are delighted to launch in Rushmoor.  We have been setting up the project over the last two years and we are ready to let residents in Rushmoor join the scheme and see the benefits. The A-Line Taxi drivers will ensure that children are collected, looked after during the journey and taken to a chosen destination, be it home, a friend’s house or wherever.  It saves the need for children to carry cash with them; the cards can be put at the bottom of a child’s school bag or in pencil cases so they have them on hand for emergencies.” 

As part of the Council’s licensing conditions all A-Line Taxi drivers are fully CRB checked and have additionally competed an NVQ in road passenger vehicle driving – level 2.  Vehicles will display a licence plate either on the front or the rear of the vehicle, which will show the licensing authority and vehicle registration number.  A licensed driver will also wear or display an identity badge, which will show the driver’s licence number and licensing authority details.
