Festivals and Performances

The annual Aldershot and Farnborough Festival of Music and Art is a competitive event held between April and June. It is open to amateurs and students of all ages and covers a wide range of abilities.
Dance styles include Ballet, Character, Tap, Song and Dance, National, Line Dance, Irish Dance, Greek, Modern and Acrobatic as well as choreography and improvisation. You may compete as a solo performer, duet, trio / quartet or larger ensemble.

Hampshire Dance

Hampshire Dance acts as the dance development agency for the county and is also an information, advice and networking source. Work ranges from youth dance and dance in education to a strategic dance programme for disabled children and adults and ongoing professional development support for locally based practitioners and dance artists.

Hampshire Youth Dance Company, managed and run by Hampshire Dance, offers young people aged 12 to 21 years the opportunity to take regular dance classes, work with a range of choreographers and perform throughout the county and southern region at youth dance events. Membership is by annual audition in June/July each year and the company is based at The Point Dance & Arts Centre in Eastleigh.

National Resource Centre for Dance (NRCD)

The National Resource Centre for Dance is a resource and information centre based at the University of Surrey, Guildford.

They offer an information service for basic enquiries about dance and a research service. At the Resource Centre they hold many dance books and publications including press cuttings, publicity material and programmes from dance companies and some company archives.

The NRCD also produce educational materials for GCSE and AS/A Level Dance qualifications and hold study courses and an annual summer school for dance teachers.

The POP ACADEMY

The POP ACADEMY is a unique educational environment set up to inform, advise and train singers and dancers who want to work at the forefront of the pop and music industry.

The POP ACADEMY - part of the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford - is the only school of its kind. With demanding and serious training, brand new facilities, up to date professional equipment and with a team that has worked and continues to work in all areas of the music industry, students will learn every aspect and angle of the pop industry.

At the POP ACADEMY we aim to not only encourage singers and performers but competent choreographers, songwriters and potential stylists etc.

Summer Schools and part and full time courses are available for all levels. Entry by application. Part time courses are available Monday nights and Saturday mornings. The courses are designed to give students a foundation and development in the skills needed to work in the pop industry by studying dance, vocals, live performance and media training.
